Alumni and Adventurer John Peck

Alumnus and Adventurer John Peck gives HPP athletes an insight into succeeding under pressure

John Peck (M.Phil 1994) returned to campus to offer an insight into how having your resilience and resourcesfulness tested can ultimately help athletes succesd.

John was a Divisional Commander in what was one of London's most challenging areas and his experience in strategy and leadership took him to Bramshill National Police Staff Colllege where he led the Advanced Leadership Development Programme.

As a life-long adventurer, experienced coach and mentor John combines his knowledge of sports psychology and life experiences to encourage and inspire others. The theme of his talk was 'succeeding under pressure' and demonstrated to the High Performance Programme (HPP) athletes how challenges can result in positive performances and help achieve team and individual goals. The leadership strategies and principles of successs outlined resonated with the audience leading to a comprehensive Q & A session to end.

The High Performance Programme and AU are looking to further develop the workshops and development opportunities for their HPP athletes and Club Executives and would like to offer sessions in:

  • Pre-match mental preparation
  • The sport and academic life balance
  • Career development and sport
  • CV writing, interview techniques and transferable skills
  • Effective social media
  • Securing sponsorship

Any alumni or supporters who have experience in these areas and would be interested in volunteering in this way please contact Tay Attwell - Alumni Officer for Sport
