We regularly compete in varsities in the South West and venture as far away as Durham and St Andrews. We have frequently sent teams to the British Beach Polo Championships, held at Sandbanks in Poole. We compete in National Leagues and tournaments, in which we have seen great success. The highlight of our year is SUPA Winter and summer nationals, which give teams of all abilities the opportunity to compete against universities from all over the country and is a huge social event for the clubs. Alongside the polo itself, the club runs fortnightly socials on various days. These events range from pub crawls to chilled pizza evenings, so there is always something for everyone to enjoy. Our Christmas and End of Season black tie dinners are the highlight of the social calendar, attracting many guests not just from within the club, but from other universities such as Bristol, Southampton and Durham.

All in all, we are a welcoming, sociable and relaxed club. You can play as much or as little as you like and everyone gets the opportunity to play in matches, no matter what standard you are playing at. Why not give something new a try and become a member of one of the most successful and welcoming polo clubs in the country? We promise you won’t regret it.

“No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.” Winston Churchill hit the nail right on the head, join EURC and you can guarantee you will have an amazing year. Whether you have never sat on a horse before or compete at an affiliated level, there is something for everyone. We have four British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) teams and two Friendlies teams, which compete regularly throughout the year.

For those people not on teams, there are more opportunities than you could know what to do with. We organise lessons for all abilities at the local stable: Oaklands. The staff there are friendly and there is a wide range of horses. The club receives a discount on lessons too. In addition, EURC runs an in-club league to offer everyone the chance to take part in competitions and win some rosettes. Throughout the year there will be various other activities such as beach rides, cross country lessons and hacks. If you don’t fancy riding but still want to be around horses, you can volunteer for the local Riding for the Disabled Group. You can also play for the riding club intramural netball team.

The Snooker and Pool club is a great club to join whether you are an experienced player or a complete beginner looking for a casual game. We have organised training sessions a week where you can play snooker, 8-ball and 9-ball pool. At training sessions, members play friendly games against each other at the local snooker and pool hall, All Stars. All abilities are welcome, and training is flexible - you can turn up as often as it suits you. The club has a strong social aspect, and you can look forward to several fun and relaxed events during the year. For those looking for some competitive action and to develop their game, we run tournaments and leagues throughout the year. We also participate in several inter-university tournaments, including the national British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) 9-ball, pool and snooker championships. We have gained an excellent reputation, having won each of these events in the last four years. Last year, we entered our first ever women’s team to BUCS pool, something we are hoping can continue in the coming years. So if you're looking to play an enjoyable, sociable sport, with or without a competitive edge, this is the club for you!

Club overview

Following the exciting merger of Exeter Snowsports and Exeter Ski Club, SSX is the University’s brand new Snowsports Club. Set to be the biggest AU club on campus, SSX has so much to offer whether you’re a seasoned pro or a total beginner. By far the most unmissable aspect of SSX is the Easter Ski Trip. Hundreds of students set foot into the mountains for a week of snow, socials and steeze. Been skiing annually with your family since age 3? That’s no comparison to a uni ski trip… Never seen a mountain before? What better (and cheaper) place to start than with SSX?!

To those looking to compete in BUCS, there are multiple opportunities to go fast or get upside down with trips running throughout the year for our freestyle or race teams. Race training happens weekly at the local dry slope and freestyle takes regular dry slope, diving and trampoline trips to nail those backflips. Beyond our obvious addiction to snow, our social calendar is probably the most exciting of any AU club, meaning SSX is a must even those who prefer their ice in their drinks rather than under their feet. So far we have brought Shy FX and Sean Kingston to Timepiece (Exeter’s largest club), had a 900 person bar crawl, hosted an alpine Mountain Meal in Bierkeller and organised a 200 member Black Tie End of Season Dinner. Next year is going to be even better with bigger and more diverse socials so, skier or not, membership of SSX will not be regretted.

We have socials every Friday (catering to those who are keen for a Wednesday night sports social), which are often attended by a huge majority of the club, allowing everyone to get together away from the field and enjoy themselves. This friendly atmosphere extends into all aspects of the club, making it one of the most enjoyable clubs to be a part of at Exeter.
