The University of Exeter Sports Scholarship Scheme is one of the most prestigious in the UK, helping the best student athletes reach their full potential. The scheme provides a comprehensive support package and is tailored to suit the needs of each individual athlete. Many of our graduating scholars have progressed to a professional level in their chosen sport and represented their respective countries on the global stage.
Sports Scholarships are available to the most outstanding student athletes who show evidence of achievement at national or international level, primarily awarded to those competing in our Performance Sports.
Sport Performance Bursary
This award is for current students studying at the University of Exeter. If you do not compete in one of our performance sports but are at an international standard in your sport and can compete in BUCS competition for the university, you may be eligible for a Performance Bursary.
The application process is now closed for 2018/19 academic year.
Applications will open September 2019 for the 2019/20 academic year. If you are competing internationally in your sport please contact our Performance Unit to see if you are eligable for funding on 01392 723759 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org
Sports Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are available to undergraduate and postgraduate applicants, as well as current students. Every Sports Scholar must be a student at the University of Exeter and compete for the University in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) events.
Emphasis is placed on awarding scholarships to athletes competing in one of our performance sports, however, performers from any sport recognised by the Athletic Union will be considered.
Scholarships are only offered to students who have gained a place or normal admission to a course at the University of Exeter. No special reduction in entry criteria is offered as part of the scholarship and all offers of a place on the scheme are subject to receiving an offer at the University.
Sports scholarships are awarded annually and tailored to the needs of the individual. They include a cash sum for sporting expenses up to £2,000 a year for exceptional athletes.
The amount awarded depends on your:
- chosen sport,
- ability and potential to develop during your time at Exeter.
A full package of support services and coaching equating to a cash equivalent upwards of £3,500 is also provided as part of each award.
The sports scholarship scheme is funded centrally by the University Performance Programme. However, several partners and local and national sponsors also show great generosity by financing several individual scholarships and bursaries.
We also offer Individual Performance Bursaries up to £500 per athlete. These bursaries may be awarded at the discretion of the Performance Unit in conjunction with our sports specific directors and high performance sport managers. Funds may be used to help cover sporting expenses throughout the season for representative commitments and training camps. Further details are available upon request
The Performance Unit assesses all applications and invites shortlisted candidates to formally apply to the second stage of the scheme’s application process at the end of June. This application requires a more detailed submission and references.
In most circumstances shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a sports specific screening and assessment at the University during pre-season training in late August onwards. A final decision on the award will then be made and awards will be allocated at the start of the new academic year in September.
Applications for 2019/2020 year are now open, if you would like to discuss future applications please contact the Performance Team on 01392 723759 or email email@example.com
