Club Overview

“No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.” Winston Churchill hit the nail right on the head, join the tiding club and you can guarantee you will have an amazing year. Whether you have never sat on a horse before or compete at an affiliated level, there is something for everyone. We have four British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) teams and two Friendlies teams, which compete regularly throughout the year.

For those people not on teams, there are more opportunities than you could know what to do with. We organise lessons for all abilities at the local stable: Oaklands. The staff there are friendly and there is a wide range of horses. The club receives a discount on lessons too. In addition, riding runs an in-club league to offer everyone the chance to take part in competitions and win some rosettes. Throughout the year there will be various other activities such as beach rides, cross-country lessons and hacks.

If you don’t fancy riding but still want to be around horses, you can volunteer for the local 'Riding for the Disabled' group. You can also play for the riding club social sport netball team.

Club Overview

The University of Exeter Rifle Club is a home office-approved rifle club that was started to introduce the target rifle shooting discipline to students. We provide a wide range of coaching for all our members, ranging from complete novices to GB shooters. For beginners, we have a developed training program to teach you the basics of shooting and then continue this development into our competition squad. For shooters with previous experience, we look to develop your skills further and encourage you to start shooting within our squads.

Our training sessions are held on Saturdays, and for those within our competition squad, an additional session takes place on Wednesdays at Budleigh Farm Target Shooting Centre in Moretonhampstead. We provide all the kit required for our sessions as well as transport to the range. At Budleigh Farm, we focus solely on the smallbore discipline (.22), where you will receive training at distances spanning from 25 to 100 yards. Once a term, we organize a trip with the British Young Shooters Association (BYSA) to the National Shooting Centre in Surrey. During this time, participants will have the opportunity to engage in fullbore (.308/7.62x51mm) shooting, honing their skills at distances ranging from 300 to 1000 yards. These trips are done with a number of other Universities, so you will be able to socialise and meet other rifle shooters from other rifle clubs.

There are loads of opportunities to represent the University within the rifle club both in an individual and a team capacity. The club competes in BUCS, DCSRA and local competitions which are held at our range. These opportunities are available all year round to members and we like to get new shooters involved as soon as you are ready.

In addition to our training sessions, the Rifle Club hosts social events every Thursday with a fun and friendly atmosphere aiming to encourage new members into the society.

Club Overview

The University of Exeter Rugby League Club is a successful, welcoming, ambitious and rewarding club. Over the last few seasons the club has enjoyed success with our teams playing in their highest league possible, winning the BUCS South Premier League and making the national semi finals of the 22/23 season. The vast majority of current players had never tried League before University and the transition from Union could not have been easier and we will be there to help you every step of the way. As a club we continue to look to develop the sport of Rugby League in the South West and establish Community links which we hope can set up roots for the game to spread. UoE Rugby League welcome any player, of any ability, whether you want a new challenge, develop your skills, just play casually or join socially.

Club Overview

The Snooker and Pool club is a great club to join whether you are an experienced player or a complete beginner looking for a casual game. We have organised training sessions a week where you can play snooker, 8-ball and 9-ball pool. At training sessions, members play friendly games against each other at the local snooker and pool hall, All Stars. All abilities are welcome, and training is flexible - you can turn up as often as it suits you.

The club has a strong social aspect, and you can look forward to several fun and relaxed events during the year. For those looking for some competitive action and to develop their game, we run tournaments and leagues throughout the year. We also participate in several inter-university tournaments, including the national British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) 9-ball, pool and snooker championships. We have gained an excellent reputation, having won each of these events in the last four years. Last year, we entered our first ever women’s team to BUCS pool, something we are hoping can continue in the coming years. So if you're looking to play an enjoyable, sociable sport, with or without a competitive edge, this is the club for you!

Club Overview

Following the exciting merger of Snowsports and Ski Club, SSX is the University’s Snowsports Club. SSX has so much to offer whether you’re a seasoned pro or a total beginner.

To those looking to compete in BUCS, there are multiple opportunities to go fast or get upside down with trips running throughout the year for our freestyle or race teams. Race training happens weekly at the local dry slope and freestyle takes regular dry slope, diving and trampoline trips to nail those backflips. Beyond our obvious addiction to snow, our social calendar is probably the most exciting of any AU club, meaning SSX is a must even for those who prefer their ice in their drinks rather than under their feet. So far we have brought Shy FX and Sean Kingston to Timepiece (Exeter’s largest club), hosted an alpine Mountain Meal in Bierkeller and organised a 200 member Black Tie End of Season Dinner. Next year is going to be even better with bigger and more diverse socials so, skier or not, membership of SSX will not be regretted.
