Recapping September's disability awareness month, introducing Black History Month

For our first awareness month, our clubs set a precedent for the year of inclusivity and started up accessibility sessions for opportunities in disability sport. We have a special shout-out to EUAFC and EULFC for their successful para football session!

Multi Grand Slam Champion and wheelchair tennis icon, Mr Alfie Hewitt, has agreed to share his experience in disability sport on November 7th @ 7pm through an online talk/Q&A. This is open to everyone, and we encourage you to join! A link to join will be released closer to the date. If you’d like to know how disability sport differs from non-disabled sport, a bit about Alfie’s sporting journey to the top, how sport can affect wellbeing, or if you have any questions you’d like to ask the man himself, then this is not one to miss!

Introducing Black History Month

As October is recognised as Black History Month, the AU is committed to honouring this across all 52 clubs. Together in Exeter Sport, we can make change for the better through real and long-term actions, as well as celebrate black history, heritage, culture, and pinnacle figures. This is one of the most important celebrations of the year, for all backgrounds to get involved in, which recognises black history that has shaped the world that we know now. With Exeter Sport, there is no limit to how we can get involved this October. However, do make sure to keep an eye out for information on our AU movie screening of King Richard; a movie about the William’s sisters’ journey to success and the strategies their dad used to get them to prevail in the predominantly white sport from humble beginnings.
