EUTRC Success at UNTS

University of Exeter's Touch Rugby Club (EUTRC) travelled to Nottingham last weekend (12-2-22) for the University National Touch Series which saw Exeter bring home the silverwear and more oppitunity to replicate their success at the next national competitonl. Sadie Pither (EUTRC Publicity Secretary) gives us a full report on the weekend, and letting us know how all 4 teams got on...

"On Saturday 12th February, EUTRC took 4 teams to compete in the first national round of the University National Touch Series (UNTS) in Nottingham. As the largest university touch rugby club in the UK and one of the most successful, we had our 1s and 2s competing in the Cup round and our 3s and 4s competing in the Plate round - something we’re incredibly proud of as a club. Hosted by England Touch, the day started off with all teams playing pool games, before finishing in the afternoon with play-offs.

Our 4s (Team Storm, captained by Conor Devlin-Cook), displayed great skill under the circumstances - hit by injury in advance of the UNTS, they hadn’t had as much opportunity as our other teams to train together. For that reason, they should be congratulated on their collective effort to gel together and play some quality touch.

Our 3s (Team Typhoon, captained by Ralph Edwards), also had a hugely successful day, beating Loughborough 2s and achieving a draw with Bath 2s, before ultimately missing out to Surrey 1s. As a 3s team it’s evident that they are incredibly strong in terms of their relationships both on and off the pitch, which was clearly conducive to some real stand-out touch rugby.

Our 2s (Team Monsoon, captained by Dan Hess), had an uphill battle on the day of UNTS, hit by injury and playing in a pool composed mostly of 1s teams from other universities. For this reason their determination should be celebrated, as well as the massive effort from every individual to face each opponent with respect and a high level of skill.

Our 1s (Team Hurricane, captained by James Vyvyan), had a series of successes throughout the UNTS from start to finish. Beating teams such as Loughborough 1s, Leeds 1s and Cardiff propelled them forward into the afternoon, where they reached the final and took home the silverware. We were incredibly proud of them as a club - not only for the success they achieved, but for the high level of respect and positive attitude displayed by every individual in the team.

We are looking forward to the 2nd round of the UNTS on 5th March, where we hope to replicate the successes of the previous round and prove that Exeter deserves to place top of the podium once again!"

We want to wish EUTRC the best of luck with the rest of their season and their next round of the UNTS. For more information on our touch rugby club, please click here.
