Selection Success-English Universities Selection for UoE Netballers

UoE Performance Netballers Emily Becconsall (BSc Geography) and Kaitlin Lawrence (BA History) have both been selected for the English Universities squad who are working towards playing a series of matches against U21 Home Nations squads and the British Colleges side.

Kaitlin and Emily are both 1st year University students and part of the University of Exeter Netball Performance Programme, representing the University in weekly BUCS competition. Emily is also the current Team Bath NPL U19 captain and Kaitlin is trialling for the Netball Scotland U21 squad later in the year. Both girls play for Exeter Netball Club which is a partnership with the University of Exeter and plays in the Netball South West Regional 1 and England Netball Premier 3 league respectively.

Looking ahead to being part of the English Universities squad Kaitlin commented “I’m really excited to be part of the squad this year and develop my netball further alongside such talented netballers”. Emily added “Being selected for the squad was an honour and I’m so excited to grow with this squad and be able to put on the dress and represent the country alongside my “team mate”.

Although the current timeline for return to netball in England is currently unknown undoubtedly the priority for the squad once they are together will be building together as a team as they prepare for their 1st match.

Reflecting on the Exeter girls selection within the squad University Head of Netball Denise Ellis commented “I am absolutely thrilled that both Emily and Kaitlin have been successful in being selected for the English Universities Squad. This is testament to their hard work, dedication and playing ability they have displayed within the Netball Performance Programme here at the University. I am sure everyone will join me in wishing them every success for the coming matches”.

Netball is part of the University of Exeter Performance Sport programme and as such all netball performance athletes receive access to top level quality coaching and a comprehensive support services package. This includes S&C, physio and athlete lifestyle support. The University Netball programme also benefits from partnerships with Exeter Netball Club for regional and national competition and the Team Bath Netball franchise with an Exeter based hub and academy set up.
