EUMHC reach the Premier play offs

University of Exeter Men’s Hockey have secured the Men’s Hockey League Conference West title in a race for the Men’s Hockey League Premier Division playoffs.

Having previously played in the Premier Division in the 2011-2012 season, the same year they lifted the BUCS Championship, Exeter are keen to secure their place in this highly competitive league alongside the country's top teams. In a snow disrupted season Exeter have leapt to the finish line with 14 wins, 2 draws and just 2 losses in an 18 fixture competition format. Cardiff & Met emerged as their nearest rivals with the final game of the season being a 9 goal thriller and finishing 5-4 in Exeter’s favour.

Sports Scholar, BSc Economics student and 1st team captain Will Carter Keall commented “I'm proud of the boys and how far we've come this season, and delighted that we managed to win the league with a game to spare. The team has worked extremely hard all season, and our success is a credit to them. We're excited for the challenge that the playoffs will bring and look forward to testing ourselves against some good opposition”.

EUMHC face the University of Nottingham on Sunday 22nd April in the 1st leg of play off fixtures. They then travel to University of Birmingham for a double header weekend Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th April to meet Sevenoaks and Oxted to decide the Premier League line up for the 2018-2019 season. Having already met University of Nottingham Men’s 1st team in the BUCS Championship quarter final, where Exeter triumphed 3-0, they will be hoping for a similar score line.

Looking ahead to the playoffs, Men’s Hockey 1st team coach Simon Tyson commented “Winning the Western Conference is a fantastic achievement and testament to the effort and attitude of the entire squad. Alongside the BUCS Premier South title, this latest achievement means that the team have won both of the leagues that we competed in this season. We aspire to play at the top level and our focus is now on the forthcoming playoff fixtures as we seek to secure promotion into the Premier Division”.
