Dani King MBE to launch new Indoor Cycling class at the University of Exeter

On Wednesday 19 October Dani King MBE will be at the University of Exeter Sports Park to officially launch the new indoor cycling class and to offer her knowledge to the invited guests.

The Indoor Cycling class uses the latest innovation in the health and fitness industry; Coach by Colour ® using the Matrix IC7 bikes. Participants in the Indoor Cycling class will be able to easily set-up their training zones and instantly recognise when they fall below their own standards and aims. The key element is the unique coloured lights on the front of the bike, enabling the instructor to power-up the class and / or individuals when required. The lights cycle through distinct colours when training; white, blue, green, yellow and red.

The new Matrix iC7 bikes are the latest technology from Matrix Fitness and offer huge advancements in training. The participants will instantly feel the benefits of improved belt technology and flywheel speed offering advanced performance. The bikes have been designed to the highest specification to be easy and quick to set up for each unique rider, with all bike electronics powered by the flywheel.

Neil Sheppard, Assistant Director of Sport and keen cyclist, is positive the bikes will be provide a huge benefit; “We continuously invest in our facilities and services and I’m sure these new bikes will be a massive hit. They will help our customers to identify and reach their fitness goals, and of course if they are not working hard enough the instructor will know!”

Dani King is a London 2012 Olympic gold medallist in the team pursuit and has enjoyed a successful 2016 season, focusing exclusively on the road. She has recently joined the Cyclance Pro Cycling team and is looking to build upon her performances during 2017.Dani will host an invite-only question and answer session at 12:00 followed by an Indoor Cycling class where attendees will have the chance to experience an indoor cycling class with one of our instructors.

The University of Exeter recently powered their way to victory in the National Cycling Challenge; a national initiative to encourage work colleagues to jump on their bikes for fun during September. In total staff from the Streatham and St Luke’s campuses covered more than 32,000 miles over the course of September as part of the challenge. Riders earned points for each ride and by encouraging others to take part. The organisation with the most points at the end of the month secures the coveted prize. Cycling is a key part of the University’s sustainable travel policy and investment in the cycle to work infrastructure will continue for staff and students.

Joel Smith, the University’s Travel Plan Coordinator, who coordinated the University’s challenge campaign and also took part said; “It is a fantastic achievement - we are all delighted to have won the national competition.”

“Cycling plays a key role in our work to promote active and sustainable travel and we actively encourage students and staff to cycle to and from our campuses, and this commitment is shown by coming out on top. There is no better way to celebrate than knowing we have encouraged more people to cycle more often, and we will be doing all we can to support them to keep riding.

Over 75 fitness classes run across the sports facilities in Exeter which are open to students, staff and the local population. Indoor Cycling is proving to be the most popular class this academic year with many members pedalling their way to fitness.

The University of Exeter has been awarded The Times and The Sunday Times Sports University of the Year 2016, following significant investment and development over the past 10 years.
