Rowing

Approximately 15-20 rowers are selected annually for our performance squad. These athletes will be given access to the following rowing specific programme alongside the Performance Programme support services.

  • Three water sessions a week from the Nicholas Bull Boathouse
  • Access to the ergo room at the Sports Park
  • Up to four coached strength and conditioning sessions per week including weights, recovery by a dedicated strength and conditioning coach
  • BUCS events including indoor championships, 4s and 8s head and BUCS regatta with the potential to qualify for the European Universities events.
  • Opportunity to compete at the Henley and Metropolitan Regatta
  • Support with Great Britain trials and process for GB under 23 or senior teams

The high performance programme is led by the Director of Rowing, Richard Tinkler. Richard coached at Olympic level, and starting coaching at Exeter in 2011. He is assisted by Lorna Tinkler, an ex GB lightweight rower and brings many years of experience and knowledge to the program.

A former National Champion himself, Richard has been in the rowing game for over forty years, during which he worked with GB Rowing for over a decade. A highly motivated coach who cites his biggest achievement as “my next win”, Richard joined the University of Exeter’s rowing programme as Head Coach in 2011, becoming Director of Rowing in 2013.
