St Luke's Refurb Main

Over £30,000 will be spent on the refurbishment

St Luke's Gym Refurbishment

The gym at St Luke’s Sports Centre will be undergoing a significant overhaul during the summer in preparation for the new academic year beginning in September.

Over the next few months, a new cooling/heating system will be installed in the gym alongside new weight machines, free weights, cables and squat racks. Audio equipment will also be improved as well as a complete re-design of floor space and display visuals.

New equipment includes:

  • SYNRGY90 cable including rope pull, suspension chin & TRX suspension trainer
  • Weights machines including chest press, shoulder press, leg press, leg curl / leg extension, lat pulldown / low row
  • Two squat racks
  • Multi-adjustable benches
  • 2-40kg rubber dumbbell set & rack
  • Matting / stretching area
  • Bars and plates

In total, over £30,000 worth of new equipment will be delivered to further enhance the health & fitness provision at St Luke’s. The development includes remodelling the entrance to maximise space, installing improved audio / visual equipment and access.

The gym facilities at both St Luke’s Sports Centre and the Sports Park have seen the number of users increase each year as well as the number of memberships. This significant investment in facilities supports the University’s ambition to provide Excellence in Sport for all customers, students and staff.

St Luke’s Operations Manager, Richard Bean, commented:

“We have seen a significant increase in the use of the health and fitness facilities at St Luke’s by our students over the past year. As a result of their direct feedback we have been able to provide them with this fantastic investment! The team at St Luke’s are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the new gym as the new academic year begins!”

In addition to gym improvements, St Luke’s will also see a further £5,000 invested in new fitness trees installed around campus. These provide users with outdoor exercise rigs that can host more than 100 different exercises. Each tree supports a set of bars, positioned at differing heights to allow activities such as tricep dips, pull-ups and inclined press-ups.

Due to the significant investment taking place, disruptions and closures to St Luke’s gym may be necessary over the coming weeks. On Monday 24 July, the first phase of installing a new heating/cooling system will take place, meaning the gym will be closed all day. New equipment will then be delivered week beginning 21 August.  Any disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Further information on any changes or temporary closures will be confirmed over the coming weeks. To stay up-to-date with these, please follow our social media channels:
