The University of Exeter is home to two swimming pools across its Exeter campuses.
All swimming sessions are non-bookable and are based on a first come first served basis. Please see the full pool timetable below for the most up-to-date information on when available customer swim sessions take place throughout the week within our opening hours.
Admissions Policy:
Children under the age of 8 years must be directly supervised in the water by a responsible person aged at least 18 years, the parent or legal guardian.
- 1 Adult to every child aged 3 years and under
- 1 Adult to 2 children aged 4-7 years
- This person must directly supervise under 8’s (i.e. be within reach) at all times.

About the Outdoor Pool
Open seven days a week during our Spring and Summer months, our four-lane, 25-metre outdoor swimming pool is set in a large grass and patio area, heated to a constant 29ºc and staffed by qualified lifeguards.
Within the pool facility, we also have 6 changing room lockers, 2 toilets, 3 open showers and 12 small storage lockers.
Cornwall House Outdoor Pool is located at the rear of Cornwall House, number 80 on the Streatham campus map. There is limited parking near the pool but visitor parking is available on campus.

Private Hire & Pool Parties at the Outdoor Pool - Book for 2024!
Our Outdoor Pool is now available for private hire in 2024!
On Saturday & Sunday, between 15:00 and 16:00 you can have exclusive use of the Outdoor Pool on our Streatham Campus for up to 30 people for just £105! Want to book a different day? Contact our bookings team to see what other times and dates we have available for your party!
This includes private use of the facility and a lifeguard at the pool for your group.
For £125, you can add on our stepping stones (this includes another lifeguard)! Challenge your guests to reach the end of our stepping stones without falling in!
You are welcome to invite your guests to make use of our grass areas and benches for an hour afterwards to enjoy your own picnic – a complete event in one location (you will not have private use of the facility at this point).

Indoor pool at St Luke's
Our 22.8-meter indoor swimming pool at St Luke’s Sports Centre is heated, three lanes wide and 2.5 meters deep at the deep end.
Throughout the week, the pool is available for lane, casual, and family swimming on a first come first serve basis with a capacity for 18 swimmers in each session. Please note that you cannot pre-book/reserve a space for any swimming sessions.
Lane swim: Three lanes consisting of a slow, medium and fast lane are put in place allowing swimmers to choose a lane depending on their ability/goal. In the fast lane, fins and flippers can be used but please note snorkels are not permitted in the pool.
Casual swim: 1 lane is put in place for swimmers wanting to do this, whilst the rest of the pool is left as an open space for relaxed swimming.
Family swim: The pool is a completely open space with no lanes, allowing families and small children to enjoy the pool area and have fun! Small inflatables, floats, woggles and toys are permitted to be used in this session.
SwimFit: Swim fit is a class which uses a mixture of strokes, speeds, lengths and exercises to provide a more varied way to work out and improve fitness rather than traditional lane swimming. Class included in our Gym & Classes / Premium Membership. Pay-as-you-go options available for other members and non-members also welcome.
For private bookings and special events at the pool, starting blocks and swimming floats are available. However, please contact stlukessportscentre@exeter.ac.uk to enquire about hiring and for more information.
The pool is also home to our acclaimed Learn to Swim programme, which helps over 900 children and a cohort of Adults learn to swim every week. The swim school takes place throughout the week and follows the Amateur Swimming Association’s (ASA) guidelines and caters for children aged three years and over. A swim membership allows you to make the most of our swimming pool, and swim as much as you want whenever you want in line with our timetabled sessions!
