University Sport Scholar, Emily Toy, Pushes the best in the country in the English Women’s Amateur Championship.

Emily Toy (Sport Scholar / HPP ) took her outstanding form from the 2017/18 BUCS season through to the summer, finishing tied for 4th place at the English Women's Amateur Championship at The Wilmslow Golf Club. Two successive rounds of 69 put the University of Exeter high performance athlete in solo first (-6) at the halfway stage and a third round of two under par put her in a great position moving in to the final 18. A hard fought 74 dropped her back into fourth place, ultimately missing out by a mere two strokes. We asked Emily how she felt with the championship this year and she reflected on her performance:

“Firstly I am very pleased with the overall performance throughout the week. Before the start of the week if you said I would finish in the top 5 I would of been incredible happy. The first 3 rounds I played really solid golf, which put me into contention going into the final round. Unfortunately in the final round, I didn't get off to the start I would of wanted to, but I kept battling to play the last 12 holes in 2 under par and finish the tournament on -6. In doing this I cut my handicap to +3 which is very satisfying and I am also the reserve for the Home Internationals later in August.”

A fantastic achievement and testament to why she's currently one of the country's leading golfers. The performance at the flagship event of the women's amateur game in England followed a recent top 10 at the ladies order of merit's Astley Salver keeping her in the running for Home Internationals selection in August.
