Freya Davies taking a wicket for Western Storm

Fast Bowler and former Sports Scholar Freya Davies makes England debut

Stepping onto the field for her 1st England cap former UoE Sports Scholar Freya Davies made an immediate impact on the international stage as England cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka to go one-nil up in their IT20 series in Colombo.

Whilst studying LLB Law at University of Exeter Freya was part of the ECB Academy and following graduation was offered a full contract in the latest England squad. She has also represented Western Storm in the Kia Super League since the inaugural season and won the title with them in 2017. In 2018 Freya was named as Western Storm Bowler of the Year. At University level Freya was part of the University of Exeter women’s 1st team who won 2 outdoor BUCS silver medals during her time at Exeter.

Reflecting on her England Senior debut Freya commented “I don’t think words can ever do justice to your England debut. There’s a mixture of fear and excitement and it was definitely exciting to get out there with the girls today and get that win. It’s a day that I’ve been looking forward to for so long, for that dream to now have become a reality is a bit strange but it was great to have mum and dad here today. It was great to get a couple of wickets and that got the nerves under control a little bit. The most important thing is that we got the win and went one-nil up in the series.”

Cricket is one of the performance sports at the University of Exeter and as such Cricket Performance athletes receive access to exceptional coaching and facilities including the Athlete Development centre and a comprehensive support services package including strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, performance analysis and athlete lifestyle support.
