Sal M'Boge starts at Full Back in Anglo Welsh Cup Match vs Northampton Saints

Double Delight For Students In Anglo Welsh Cup

Following a demolishing display at Sandy Park against Bath United 3 weeks ago, Sal M'Boge and Sam Morley have now earnt selection into the Anglo Welsh Cup side to face Northampton Saints.

Sal M’Boge has been selected to start in the 15 shirt marking his debut for the first team and following on from a run of form over the Super BUCS Rugby season and A league matches. Sam Morley starts on the bench after an impressive display in the A league game against Bath, where he scored a try and kicked well off the tee.

The current University 1st XV Rugby players are also in good company with current academic student Jack Maunder (BA Business & Management) who is working his way back into the squad after a successful season gaining his full international cap for England in Argentina. Sam Skinner and Tom Lawday, graduates from this summer, complete the contingent of past and present University players representing the Chiefs this Saturday.

Ricky Pellow, the Exeter Chief’s skills coach who runs the Anglo Welsh Cup side in this phase of the season says: “The Anglo-Welsh Cup is just another big piece in the jigsaw for us, we say all the time that every competition we are in, we want to attack. It fits in well with where we are in the season, especially coming out of a tough few weeks in the Premiership and in Europe. Now, we’ve got a group of players who have been given a great opportunity to put a Chiefs shirt on and produce a big performance.” Pellow goes on to describe the side and the excitement there is surrounding the players: “The mix of the side, whether it be the young guys coming in or the more senior players, it’s a good blend for us. Over the years this is a competition we have loved to be part of, not just in terms of helping to blood young players or to get game time into others, but it’s served a real purpose in helping to develop the club as a whole.”

Surrounded by international experience, current academic colleagues and past BUCS Gold winners the students couldn’t ask for a better platform and opportunity to showcase their ability.
